Poppie Field Poppie, age 17, lives on her own in a houseboat in Sausalito, California. She is taking time off from her first year in college to experience the working world.
After weeks of searching, Poppie lands her first job with the San Francisco based magazine "The Young Traveler" as a junior writer
James "Ham" Hamamura
Ham is a photographer at "The Young Traveler". He teams up with Poppie to cover vacationing in Hawaii. While Poppie aims to rest and relax during the assignment, Ham has other ideas.

Hawaii and its Volcano
The beautiful island of Hawaii provides the backdrop for "Serpents in Paradise", the first story in the Poppie's Adventures series.
The island is still in the process of being formed by volcanic activity of its active volcano, Kilauea.
