Way Out Comics is an independent publishers of comic books and graphic novels and occasional art work by
various young and old artists. The contents of the publications reflect our personal tastes and experiences. We started Way Out Comics In 2003, when our first comic book, Poppie's Adventures: Serpents in Paradise won the Xeric Foundation Award. The story details the adventures of 17 year old travel writer, Poppie Field and her photographer sidekick Ham who find themselves in the midst of a nefarious plot which threatens the Island of Hawaii. The story was written by Julie Yeh who grew up in North Africa where she was introduced to great European comics, in particular Herge's The Adventures of Tintin.
In 2007, the complete 144 pages of 8-9-3 was published and received our second Xeric Award. The graphic novel is an edgy story about the criminal underworld of Japanese Yakuza. The story was written and illustrated by professional storyboard artist Jack Hsu who grew up in Asia and received a healthy dose of Manga and Hong Kong cinema. Finally, Way Out Comics are taking on two blogs. "Below the Asian Standards" provides a humorous look into the travails, failures and triumphs of a not too excellent Asian teenager. "Cool Asian Kids" provides Asian kids' opinions on entertainment, food, art and everything else in the kids' world.
Enjoy!
